From the main app screen (the thumbnail screen), click the add camera button (+) to launch the add camera screen.
By default, the screen is populated with the fields required for a Foscam 89 Series camera. These are the most popular consumer model on the market at the time the app was first developed. If you are adding a different model you should first select the proper profile. This is done by tapping the button under the profile name. Search the profiles by typing in the model # or brand that you are adding, then find a matching profile in the list. If you are adding a video or audio feed by using a raw URL then you can try our JPEG, MJPEG or RTSP profiles. These allow you to enter a full path to a media stream (authentication is supported).
After selecting a camera profile based on your make/model of IP camera you will be able to configure the connection settings. At a minimum you will need to input the IP and port of the device.
All information is securely stored on your iOS device and is NOT posted to any external servers or services. Every so often you should use a USB cable to backup your device with iTunes to ensure that data will not be lost.
The app shows fields that are required to be entered with yellow labels. The optional fields are displayed with white labels.
Start by giving your camera a label. This is simply a name to be displayed at the top of the thumbnail or single-camera view. It can contain any text.
Enter the IP address or a DNS host name (i.e., “192.168.1.150” or “mycamera.dyndns.org”) without any HTTP: prefix or port suffix (i.e. “:1818”) .
Enter the port into the port field. Your camera probably defaults to port 80. If you do not have to enter a “:” into the url in a web browser then port 80 is the value to use here.
The username and password of your camera (not your router) should be entered if required.
If your camera is a multi-channel server or device then you should enter the channel #. The field will be enabled if the camera profile supports multi-channel devices.
For Wifi networks the application will display motion JPEG video streams. For cell networks it will pull JPEG image frames once per “refresh rate” seconds. This reduces bandwidth consumption on wireless data plans. Some camera profiles also use this refresh rate if they do not support motion JPEG video. Do not confuse this field with a “frame rate”. A value of 1 indicates that the app will request a frame and then wait 1 second before asking for another one. Higher values indicate slower updates. You can set the value to 0 if you wish to have the app full JPEG frames as fast as the device will allow.
Latitude and Longitude can be entered so that the camera can be located on a map. Values are in decimal format and range from -90 to 90 and -180 to 180 respectively.
An optional HTTP url can be linked to the camera if desired. This allows a menu on the single-camera view to launch the associated web page that you link here.
Save your camera and view it on the thumbnail screen. If the wrong profile was selected or the connection details are invalid you should long-press on the empty thumbnail and choose “edit” to alter the settings and try again.
